The Franke family gained prominence through their YouTube channel, "8 Passengers," which documented their daily lives and amassed over 2.2 million subscribers.

Launched in 2015, "8 Passengers" showcased the Franke family's experiences, from everyday routines to significant milestones. Chad, being one of the older children, frequently featured in the vlogs, sharing moments from his school life, hobbies, and family interactions. The channel's portrayal of a structured family life resonated with many viewers, contributing to its rapid growth.

Over time, the Franke family's strict parenting methods drew criticism. In 2019, Chad was sent to the Anasazi Foundation Wilderness Therapy Program for behavioral issues, a decision that sparked public debate. Further scrutiny arose when it was revealed that Chad had been made to sleep on a beanbag for seven months as a form of punishment. 

The situation escalated in 2023 when Ruby Franke and her business associate, Jodi Hildebrandt, were arrested and later convicted on multiple counts of child abuse. The revelations led to the termination of the "8 Passengers" channel and a reevaluation of the family's public image.

Following the family's public controversies, Chad distanced himself from the limelight. He pursued a career in real estate, obtaining his license in early 2025. Chad also launched his own YouTube channel, where he shares personal vlogs, challenges, and insights into his life post-"8 Passengers."

In February 2025, Chad featured in the Hulu docuseries "Devil in the Family: The Fall of Ruby Franke," where he candidly discussed his experiences growing up under strict parenting and the subsequent challenges he faced.
